Waterloo Recreation Area

The largest state park in the Lower Peninsula at more than 20,000 acres. The park boasts 11 in-land lakes, glacial topography, 47 miles of hiking trails, exceptional wildlife habitat, hunting and fishing. The Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center features year-round exhibits and nature programs on Michigan's geologic history. Rustic and modern camping areas and cabins. Including a new 400 Sq. ft. cabin that sleeps six. Picnicking, hiking, swimming, boat launches and riding stable. Twelve miles of bridal trails and five miles of mountain bike trails. In the winter about seven miles of the hiking trails are used for ungroomed cross-country ski trails for the intermediate to advanced skier. Home to the Phyllis Haehnie Memorial Sanctuary, where visitors can enjoy gazing at numerous Sandhill Cranes from late August to early November. Metal detecting area and bridle trails.

Weber Lake State Forest Campground

18 sites for tent and small trailer use located on Weber Lake. Offers access to Lost Tamarack Pathway for hiking, biking, and the enjoyment of peaceful wooded surroundings.

Wells State Park

The Wells State Park Campground has 150 sites. All with electric. The sites are grassy with some trees. There are 20 sites located right on Green Bay for a spectacular view, one shower/toilet building for your convenience and 1/2 mile of sandy beach with toilet/changing facilities. Trails for hiking in the summer, and non-groomed trails for cross-country skiing in the winter. Be sure to also check out the new Bay Stone Lodge that can be rented on the grounds of the state park.

West Branch State Forest Campground

Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations. 18 sites for tent or small trailer use located on the west branch of the Escanaba River. Hiking pathway at the campground. Rustic campground includes vault toilets and potable water from well hand pump.

William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor

William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor is located on Atwater Street in downtown Detroit, next to the Rivard Plaza. It is the first urban state park in Michigan. It is officially open to the public, 31 acres in size that include coastal wetlands an important part of the Detroit River ecosystem that provides habitat for migrating birds and other wildlife. Fishing is available at the quiet seating at the Peter Stroh Memorial with two picnic pavilions, an historic dry dock area, accessible bicycle and pedestrian trails. The Harbor has 52 slips for transient and seasonal boaters.

Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery

A 7,000 sq. ft. Interpretive Center offers a history of Michigan's fish and fisheries management efforts on the grounds of the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery just 8 miles west of Kalamazoo. Visitors can view an assortment of fish found in Michigan from an observation platform over a clear water pond. Inside learn about all aspects of fisheries science through displays, multi-media and interpretive materials. An official Michigan Wildlife Viewing Area.
